Dewan Shafiul Alam, the son of Kalatiya, describes the history of Buriganga and Dhaleshwari Bidhaut Keraniganj. It is true that there is no history based support behind the name of Keraniganj. However, there is some logical support for naming Keraniganj based on the history of the reign of the Karran dynasty in Bengal. The Karranis, Sher Shah and his son Islam Shah, an advanced branch of the Afghan and Pathan nations, came from the Kiran area of Afghanistan and started a separate dynasty. Taj Khan Karrani was the first to introduce this dynasty in the history of Bengal. After the death of Taj Khan, his brother Salman Karrani ascended the throne of Bengal. (1565-1572 AD). After his death, Bayazid Karrani and Dawood Khan Karrani killed him. (1572 AD) The last independent king of the Karrani ruling group of Bengal ruled.

Meanwhile, after the conquest of Patna in the gradual expansion of the kingdom, King Akbar ordered his trusted general Munim Khan to conquer Bengal. Munim Khan led his expedition through the present Dinajpur and Bakerganj in the south and entered the gold mines of Dhaka. Everywhere the Afghans failed to resist the Mughal forces, crossed the Buriganga and retreated to the south bank. The location of the Karranis in this place for some time is probably the historical background of the name Keraniganj. The word should have been Karranganj. But during the East India Company, it was a deliberate fashion to change the Muslim name of a particular community or to write or pronounce it in a distorted form, which led to the spread of the name of Keraniganj.
